As a pioneer in electronic identification for companion animals from pocket pets to horses, Datamars played a significant role in the development of ISO standards 11784 and 11785 for animal identification. Companion animal microchips are as small as a grain of rice to be injected under the skin of the animal. They provide the only real form of permanent, unique identification that cannot be falsified or removed. To make implantation easier, we invented the ergonomic, ‘No Return Click’ syringe – available only from us. This singular microchip implanter gives the practitioner peace of mind that an implantation has been properly completed – proper implantation being the single best deterrent of microchip migration. It allows the practitioner to use the most natural approach and body language; it can be used comfortably with only one hand, leaving one hand free to work with and calm the animal. The ‘No Return Click’ offers additional safety: when properly and fully depressed it gives an audible click to alert the practitioner that implantation has been performed correctly and is complete; it blocks and locks the injector, which stops the microchip from being retracted back into the syringe by the piston while being removed from the animal’s body.
Our latest innovation includes the industry’s only thin microchip, Datamars Slim. The Slim concept doesn’t compromise read distance for needle gauge. Using a thin, 14 gauge needle, microchips are implanted with minimal penetration force, which is less painful and stressful for the animal but maintains the readability that animal professionals depend on for easy identification with a microchip scanner throughout a pet’s life. Datamars Slim is suitable for any breed of companion animal at almost any stage of life, allowing for the microchipping of younger animals and pocket pets with ease.
To support our pet identification efforts in some regions we offer PetLink, a 24/7/365 registry and recovery service for companion animals. PetLink provides veterinarians, animal shelters, animal rescue and humane organizations, kennels and pet owners a user-friendly, online service to register and report lost or found pets. In addition, we operate Petmaxx – an international online search engine for pets that connects PetLink users to more than 30 additional national pet databases around the world.

Conventional or visual ear tags, made from a durable and flexible plastic, are laser marked according to the customer’s needs. Datamars visual ear tags are available in multiple sizes in just about any color as circular, flag or triangular tags. Visual ear tags offer simple, man-readable identification. Electronic or EID tags contain half duplex (HDX) or full duplex (FDX) RFID microchips and can be read with portable or mountable chute/sweep/race/gate readers suitable for use indoors and outdoors.
The Datamars bolus is a ceramic capsule containing a half duplex (HDX) or full duplex (FDX) RFID microchip. RFID codes can be read independently of the position of the microchip inside the animal, whether the animal is stationary or in motion. The bolus is implanted orally and settles in the rumen (second stomach) of the animal.
Visual and electronic ear tags, as well as boluses can be used in combinations to suit any national or independent identification and tracking requirements.
